Private capital will be needed to finance the significant program of infrastructure development for India to grow domestically and position itself globally. Infrastructure spending in India is particularly politicized and could gain efficiencies through a new approach utilizing global capital markets. Newly developed financial innovations can be used to enable infrastructure financing in a way that reduces agency costs, information gaps, and improper incentives.
